Six organizations form Health Professionals against Tobacco:

   

Health Professionals against Tobacco work together to promote a tobacco-free Sweden by:

  • Monitoring and influencing  the political tobacco control process  
  • Increasing awareness, knowledge and tobacco-free behaviours within own professions
  • Creating information material
  • Supporting local tobacco control initiatives  
  • Engaging in international co-operation  

Health professionals are important role models and are considered by the public as credible sources of health information.


nurses Nurses against Tobacco will be presenting about tobacco cessation in the nursing profession at the International Council of Nursing Conference in Durban, South Africa from the 27 June - 4 July.  Read more.
Teaching

During Almedalen which is an event for politicians before the summer break, Dentistry against Tobacco and Teachers against Tobacco will be hosting two seminars on July 2 - Hide Tobacco Products in Retail and Dentistry as an Obvious Resource in Tobacco Prevention Work Read more

 

May 31, 2009 is World No Tobacco Day. This year's theme is Tobacco Health Warnings.  Sweden has yet to implement stronger health warnings which include a picture or plain packaging.  Read more

SNTP participated at the 14th World Conference on Tobacco or Health in Mumbai, India, 8-14 March 2009

Exposure to tobacco displays harm our children and youth!  In Sweden 30 000 youth start to smoke or use snus every year.  One in three men and one in five women are addicted daily tobacco users.  The majority will quit.  Exposure to tobacco displays in stores has become the tobacco industry’s only possibility to advertise tobacco products.  Youth are locked to start smoking and using snus and those that will get rid of their addiction are tempted when they shop.  Read more

EU Oral Tobacco  

EC scientific committee concludes that smokeless tobacco products are addictive and hazardous to health.  The Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) in its opinion on smokeless tobacco products addressed their health effects and addiction potential. Smokeless tobacco products contain various levels of toxic substances and these products are carcinogenic to humans (19 February 2008).  Read the report
