Six organizations form Health Professionals against Tobacco:

   

Health Professionals against Tobacco work together to promote a tobacco-free Sweden by:

  • Monitoring and influencing  the political tobacco control process  
  • Increasing awareness, knowledge and tobacco-free behaviours within own professions
  • Creating information material
  • Supporting local tobacco control initiatives  
  • Engaging in international co-operation  

Health professionals are important role models and are considered by the public as credible sources of health information.

I vårt land börjar 30 000 ungdomar att röka eller snusa varje år.  Exponering i butiker har blivit tobaksindustrins viktigaste möjlighet att göra reklam för tobaksvaror.  Många länder har redan infört dold forsäljning av tobaksprodukter.  Varför väntar Sverige?

Dental Conference

 

Read Consensus paper from the 2nd European Workshop on Tobacco use Prevention and Cessation for Oral Health Professionals.  From August 30 to September 2nd 2008 dental health professionals from around Europe gathered in Zargreb, Croatia to discuss Tobacco Control issues faced by Oral Health Professionals.  One of the key results of the meeting was the production of a consensus paper:  Tobacco or Oral Health

Teaching

During Almedalen -an event for politicians before the summer break- Dentistry against Tobacco and Teachers against Tobacco hosted two seminars - Hide Tobacco Products in Retail and Dentistry as an Obvious Resource in Tobacco Prevention Work.

Doctors against Tobacco and The Swedish Cancer Foundation facilitated a roundtable discussion on supporting reduction of smoking among employees.   Read more

 

May 31, 2009 is World No Tobacco Day. This year's theme is Tobacco Health Warnings.  Sweden has yet to implement stronger health warnings which include a picture or plain packaging.  Read more

SNTP participated at the 14th World Conference on Tobacco or Health in Mumbai, India, 8-14 March 2009

EU Oral Tobacco  

EC scientific committee concludes that smokeless tobacco products are addictive and hazardous to health.  The Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) in its opinion on smokeless tobacco products addressed their health effects and addiction potential. Smokeless tobacco products contain various levels of toxic substances and these products are carcinogenic to humans (19 February 2008).  Read the report
